National Assisted Living Week - Shining Through the Years

‍ ‍

National Assisted Living Week takes place September 13-19, and it serves as a unique opportunity for all of us to recognize the important role that senior living communities can play in enriching the lives of our seniors. This year’s theme is Shining Through the Years, and we are excited to explore!

Shining Through the Years points an important spotlight on the lives and stories of residents, as well as highlighting the important role that senior living community team members play in helping residents to continue shining bright! Shining Through the Years is all about celebrating each resident’s unique journey, helping them to share their story in the community.

Looking for ways to celebrate National Assisted Living Week? The National Center for Assisted Living has put together a thorough planning guide with lots of ideas to enhance your Shining Through the Years plans. Here are a few of our favorite excerpts from the guide:

  • Start the week by hosting a Grandparents’ Day celebration! Grandparents’ Day falls on the first day of NALW week and is the perfect opportunity to welcome families into the community as residents share stories. Host a meal or party focused on a certain decade or theme! Ask residents, staff, and guests to share important milestones. This is an excellent opportunity to display photos and memorabilia to help tell each story!

  • Host a community talent show and let your stars shine! Feature a red carpet and recognize residents and team members with personalized awards highlighting something special about them. You could even create a unique wall display!

  • Create a community time capsule, encouraging residents to contribute photos, letters, advice, and more! Seal the capsule and put it on display inside the community. Make sure you determine the date it will be unsealed in the future!
